Advocate Jiba, Advocate Mrwebi: Not Fit, Not Proper 

On Thursday, the High Court in Pretoria found that Advocate Nomgcobo Jiba, one of the four deputy heads of the National Prosecuting Authority, and Lawrence Mrwebi, the head of the Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit, are in possession of characters that were not “fit and proper” to be advocates. That they had lied. That they have brought “the image of the legal profession, the Prosecuting Authority, into disrepute”. By STEPHEN GROOTES.

North Korea has announced that it was prepared to counter-attack in the face of US “provocation”. This was said in reaction to American supersonic bombers flying through Korean airspace, which, in turn, was a reaction to North Korean nuclear tests. Read More

IMF push for Mozambican audit

International Monetary Fund chief, Christine Lagarde, pushed on Thursday for the audit of illicit Mozambican loans. Speaking in Washington, Lagarde said she was trying to get to the bottom of a government attempt to hide more than $1.4 billion in debt. Read More

A judge ruled yesterday that Donald Trump’s alleged fleecing of students through his ‘university’ should go on trial per schedule. The late November trial may not affect his presidential chances much, but will certainly prove to be a litigatory headache regardless. Read More

Game of Thrones to make Emmy history

Game of Thrones has been nominated in at least five categories, giving it the chance of breaking the record of most Emmy Awards ever for a drama. With the awards show on Sunday, expect to see at least Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams holding statuettes by the end. Read More
