The build-up to August’s local government elections has been marred by disputes and violence over the ANC’s candidate lists. Those who have been left off, and their supporters, are disgruntled and some are opting to stand as independent candidates in the election. They will join a massive group of people who now exist on the fringes of the ANC, including those who were on the losing side of factional battles, those thrown out of government and veterans who keep their distance from the party leadership. Over 10,000 refugees have died attempting to cross the Mediterranean. The European Union published these startling new figures on Tuesday indicating that this number was for the last two years alone. Read more

Trump lashes Clinton on final primary day

Instead of focusing on his own presidential campaign goals on his final day in the Republican primaries, Donald Trump railed against Hillary Clinton. Giving the global public a taste of things to come, the Orange Menace quipped, “The Clintons have turned the politics of personal enrichment into an art form” while speaking at his own golf resort. Clinton, now the Democratic nominee, is firmly in the crosshairs. Read more

Proteas back in form vs Australia

South Africa has comfortably-defeated Australia in the third ODI at Guyana National Stadium. The Proteas defended a score of 189 to bring Australia to a crumbling 142 off 34.2 overs. Read more

19th Century wine discovered

A Château d’Yquem 1896, Pedro Ximénez 1899 and Porto 189, have been discovered in a Czech castle among a vintage collection of 133 wines hidden beneath the floorboards of its chapel. The collection is valued at $830,000, but will likely fetch far higher at auction. For the hipsters, an organic, truly artisanal wine like this is worthy of spending their trust funds to buy.  Read more
