Playing the enemy: Understanding the ‘hit’ against Madonsela  

If someone really did pay a contract killer to take out Thuli Madonsela, they must be quite annoyed that the plot has been exposed before the job was done and that the revelation led to even more hero-worshipping of the public protector. It seems Madonsela’s superhero status rockets every time her detractors try to diminish her. The story of a professional hit on Madonsela is being questioned in some quarters as it makes no sense to kill her five months before she leaves office. Brazil’s impeachment process wobbles

Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment was momentarily plunged into utter bedlam on Monday. The interim lower house speaker, Waldir Maranhão, declared the judgment to impeach unlawful, resulting in some measure of chaos. The head of Brazil’s senate, however, very quickly overruled the idiocy by declaring said decision invalid. Read more
 

Sudanese rebels attack camp

Sudanese rebels have killed three people in an attack on a regufee camp in the town of Sortoni. The camp came under fire from armed rebels riding camels and in a vehicle. The camp’s inhabitants repelled the attack, with no mention of UN forces reacting immediately. Read more
 

FBI agent admits to perjury in Bulger case

A former FBI agent has admitted to lying on the stand during the trial of notorious gangster, Whitey Bulger. FBI assistant special agent in charge, Robert Fitzpatrick, falsely made claims about the FBI’s relationship with organised crime. It is unclear how this would affect Bulger’s life sentence for 11 murders, however. Read more

Elon Musk’s ‘future’ of rapid transport, a massive new development, might be unveiled today.
