I recently read an article that looked at why scientists are looking to create a ‘biobank’ on the moon where they would essentially use the moon’s incredibly cold temperatures to preserve certain cells and samples.
This is a really tough one and I always feel as though when I’m asked this question, I forget every single book I’ve ever read. But, my favourite of all time is probably The Atonement Child by Francine Rivers. More recently, but also probably one of my favourite books of all time, is The Tea Planter’s Wife by Dinah Jefferies.
Of all time, Love & Other Drugs. Recently, I’ve rewatched The Best of Me and it’s also hands-down one of my favourites.
Of all time, Friends – but only because Friends is the type of feel-good series that you can watch at any time. Recently, I’ve been rewatching Suits.
For practical reasons, I’m picking Deadpool. Not only is he an incredible combatant, I’ll also be subject to witty and comedic commentary which would undoubtedly make it easier to remain positive in the situation. I’d also take Klaus Mikaelson from The Originals – who wouldn’t want the Original Hybrid on your team. Finally – hear me out on this one, I’m picking Rapunzel from Tangled. Her hair has healing powers. If I get injured, I don’t need a medic, I just need her to sing and heal my wounds with her magical hair.
This is also an incredibly difficult question to answer because I love this country so much and Cape Town will always be my favourite place. The exchange rate also makes it difficult to conceptualise being rich enough to live elsewhere. But I’ll go with Switzerland for its abundance of natural beauty, stable economy and its worldwide recognition as a fantastic place to live.
I am scared of Cape Town’s runner’s cult. Why are there so many of you? And why are you all wearing the same branded clothing and sci-fi looking sunglasses?
Good-quality headphones.
With a piping hot cup of coffee as I scan the morning headlines.
Trust your instincts because they’re usually right.
Omnilingualism. Who wouldn’t want to be able to speak and understand every language? Not only would it make travelling far easier, it would also mean I could be employable pretty much anywhere in the world whereas now, I’m limited to living in English-speaking countries.
I think I’ve been listening to the same kind of music since I was 14 which is pretty much anything in the metalcore/pop-punk/rock genre space, but at the moment the one song that I’ve got on repeat is Foxglove by Boston Manor.
I think that the reality is that the world is adapting to the use of AI and you have to adapt with it. You just have to bear in mind that there is no AI that can match the type of quality that underpins heartfelt, passionate and distinctly “human” content.
Chicken mayo.
I don’t think I can pick one person or even just one sector. I think I admire all the frontline workers who do immeasurable work to ensure that our country doesn’t fall apart, be it in the public or private sector. A vague answer, I know.
I only graduated this year so I don’t have a lot of real-world working experience, but I worked as a copywriter for a few months before Daily Maverick hired me.
Its people are unlike any other people you’ll ever meet. We can be a cynical bunch, but South Africans are also some of the most diverse, positive and enjoyable people I’ve ever met.
Anything ABBA.
I actually haven’t been to many costume parties, but I do recycle the same witch outfit at every Halloween party.
I am driven by the overwhelming desire to eat dessert every single evening. Yes. Every. Single. Evening.
