Sexual assault charges: Fransman ready to face the music?

From initially dismissing his accuser as a honey trap and a set-up, ANC Western Cape Provincial Chairman Marius Fransman intimated through his lawyer on Monday that he would be willing to face charges “sooner rather than later”. The announcement was prompted by the publication in Daily Maverick of a series of revealing WhatsApp messages sent by Fransman to a young Stellenbosch woman, Louisa Wynand, a few days before he allegedly sexually assaulted her en route to the ANC’s 104th celebrations in Rustenberg in January. French police killer had 'hit list'

Larossi Abballa, the ISIL-linked murderer of a husband and wife, both members of the police force in France, apparently had a hit list. French authorities revealed a list of VIPs in France and messages from Abballa in which he threatened to turn Euro 2016 into a "graveyard". Read more

British homophobic cleric expelled

Farrokh Sekaleshfar, a homophobic cleric visiting an Islamic centre in Australia, has had his visa revoked and been sent packing. Sekaleshfar preached that death for homosexuals was "compassionate". Just this once Australia's rampant xenophobia became a force for good. Read more

Hillary Clinton has secured the final primary in Washington DC. Although purely ceremonial at this point, the victory raises two important questions. Firstly, what on earth will Bernie Sanders do now? And secondly, how will Clinton shift her campaign to counter the Trump machine? Read more
