Okay, so much for the great showing of “Invictus” and “District 9”, now about the really big guns: James Cameron is leading the pack to become the King of the Oscar World again. In 1997 his previous mega-blockbuster, “Titanic”, was nominated for 14 awards, and won 11 of them. This time, his mega-mega-blockbuster “Avatar” has nine nominations and it looks set to win a big chunk of them.

Cameron's biggest opponent this year is his former wife, Kathryn Bigelow, whose little film called “The Hurt Locker” looks very, very good indeed, and has exactly the same number of nominations.
Quentin Tarantino's “Inglourious Basterds,” received eight nominations, followed by the brilliant “Up In The Air” with six, while the depressing “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” received five.
Jeff Bridges is probably going to win the Best Actor award (sorry, Morgan), while Meryl Streep is odds-on favourite for Best Actress award for being a better “Julia” than Julia Childs herself.
