Take action to alleviate hunger: DM holiday appeal

Holiday isn’t just a time of joy. For the poorest amongst us, especially children, it’s a time of suffering and deepening hunger. Schools are closed, meaning the National School Nutrition Programme which feeds 9 million children is not operating, shutting off the one source of a regular meal for millions of children. In recent weeks Maverick Citizen has documented this in the Eastern Cape.

To show we care and to try and alleviate this suffering Daily Maverick is partnering with SA Harvest, one of the biggest and best food redistribution organizations in SA on an appeal to raise funds and simultaneously distribute the foods it can buy through the Lusikisiki office of SA Harvest in the Eastern Cape.

SA Harvest has the capacity and networks to make a difference. It works with CBOs, local people and Boxer supermarkets in the Pondoland area. We appeal to you to make a donation now at the button below. Encourage friends, family and businesses to do the same. R1 000 buys a food parcel for a family of six lasting two months. If 10 of us give R100 each, that’s one family fed.
