New protest breaks out at Australian immigration centre

A mere 12 hours after a protest by a group of Tamil men ended, a new group of detainees at Sydney's Villawood immigration centre began another rooftop protest. This started at 8.00am in Sydney on Wednesday, and officials are in negotiations with the group, which is thought to comprise Chinese nationals, including a pregnant woman, to come down from the roof. The original Tamil protest followed the suicide of a Fijian detainee, who jumped to his death shortly before he was due to be deported.  Read more: AFP, via News24
