Pakistan suicide bomb in cattle market – what’s at stake

This time at least 12 people were killed and 35 injured by a suicide bomber at a cattle market on the outskirts of Peshawar. The apparent target was an anti-Taliban mayor who was killed in the blast. This latest attack joins a growing list of attacks in response to the continuing army offensive in South Waziristan, in Pakistan’s rugged northwest mountains. Reporters say the mayor had been in the forefront of anti-Taliban activities and his death will probably strengthen Taliban control in the region. Read more at the BBC
