Bomb at UN office in Pakistan kills at least five

A suicide bomber in military gear exploded a bomb in the Islamabad office of the UN’s World Food Programme on Monday, killing at least five staffers. The Pakistani interior minister said the bomber detonated his explosives just after noon when the UN facilities were crowded. The bomber wore the uniform of a diplomatic mission guard. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. A UN spokeswoman said all UN offices in Pakistan were closed as part of a temporary measure to ensure staff safety. Around 80 people work at the compound that is already heavily guarded and secured. Police were unable to explain how the bomber got through all the in depth defences, including manned checkpoints. Hmm.
