Second Marange diamond auction goes ahead

On Saturday and Sunday diamonds from Zimbabwe's controversial Marange fields were sold, in the second auction supervised by the Kimberley Process this year. Sales of diamonds from Marange have been banned since November 2009, after accusations of human rights abuses, including the military beating up local inhabitants and forcing them to mine the gems. No such further auctions will be authorised until the Kimberley Process has completed its investigation into the alleged abuses. Read more: Sapa, via Times Live
