Flexible tubes could make wall-sized TVs affordable
Nupix of Corning, New York, has developed technology that may make wall-sized TVs much cheaper. The company’s researchers have developed wires that deliver high-voltage electric impulses to all the individual fluorescent lights which act as pixels in plasma screens at a faster rate than conventional wires. Crucially though, the system is not based on individual cells like plasma TVs at all, but on wires running through plasma tubes. The tubes are knit together in a cross-section, much like a bamboo mat, and pixels are lighted up when electric impulses running through intersecting wires meet.
