The BBC has announced that Sudan has suspended FM broadcasts of BBC Arabic in four northern cities: Port Sudan, El Obeid, Wad Medani and the capital Khartoum. Sudan said that the suspension was not due to the content of the broadcasts, but due to breaches in governing accords with the BBC. These included bringing satellite equipment into the country via diplomatic means and broadcasting in South Sudan without central government control.
