Ahmadinejad survives alleged assassination attempt
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has survived an assassination attempt, according to reports, after a hand grenade exploded near his convoy. The handmade weapon was thrown at the president's convoy as he was on his way to address a crowd in Hamedan. Ahmadinejad reportedly escaped unhurt and managed to give his speech as planned. One person has been arrested. Conflicting reports are coming out of Iran, with some sources saying the attack did occur and the state television broadcaster denies it. Read more: The Guardian
