First ruling on constitutionality of Proposition 8 scheduled for today

The first ruling on the constitutionality of California's same sex marriage ban, better known as Proposition 8, is scheduled for later today. Chief US District Judge Vaughn Walker has reached a decision and is expected to hand down judgement later this afternoon, which will be early next morning for us. Two same sex couples and the city of San Franscisco brought the ruling against Proposition 8, which was passed with a 52% majority vote and outlawed same sex marriage in the state. The attorneys on both sides say an appeal is certain if the judge does not rule in their favour, so this won't be the last we hear of this. Read more: AP, via Google News
