BP hopes “static kill” will work today

BP is still hoping to attempt the first part of two operations to permanently plug the ruptured Gulf of Mexico oil well today, despite technical difficulties in crucial tests. The company remains cautiously optimistic that "static kill", which basically involves pumping drilling mud down the well, will still work, though a hydraulic leak was detected in tests on Monday.
