Egypt recalled its ambassador from Algiers after its soccer team failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in Sudan, losing 1-0 to Algeria. Egypt blames violence by Algerian fans. The pre-match tension was also hot, with thousands of Algerian fans ransacking the offices of Egypt Air in the capital, Algiers, as they tried to get tickets to the match. The Sudanese claim Egyptian comments about attacks after the game were exaggerated, saying the 15,000 police deployed to the ground were in control. We reckon that if you need 15,000 coppers to control a soccer match, the atmosphere in the ground must have been like molten lava.Read more: BBC, Sapa-AFP
