Somali pirates seize another vessel

Fresh from hijacking a Chinese bulk carrier with 25 crew, Somali pirates seized a Panamanian-flagged carrier, taking 26 people hostage. The pirates operate across a vital shipping lane in the Gulf of Aden, and have begun striking further into the Indian Ocean, beyond the reach of numerous navies patrolling waters closer to land. An Italian vessel also came under fire north of the Seychelles, but managed to escape. The International Maritime Bureau says attacks off the Somali coast have climbed dramatically this year.
