Nigerian fuel tanker inferno engulfs minibus passengers

In another tragic side effect of Nigeria’s exploitation of its vast oil reserves, 70 people were burnt to death when a fuel tanker hit a pothole and exploded near minibus taxis. Officials, who said the toll could rise, blamed the accident on Nigeria's poorly maintained roads. Several people were badly burnt and taken to hospital. Nigeria’s oil industry has seen numerous deadly accidents over the years, with people roasted alive while scavenging for petrol at ruptured pipelines.
