Freelance fundraiser/adviser for new UK investigative journalism platform

Declassified UK, based in London, is looking for an experienced fundraising/business development adviser on a freelance basis.

We are a new online investigative journalism platform analysing UK foreign, security and intelligence policies. Declassified conducts independent journalism uncovering the UK’s real role in the world. Website – www.DeclassifiedUK.org. Twitter – @DeclassifiedUK 

Declassified is a team of three staff and is in the process of expanding, due to secured funding from several donors. We are looking for a temporary fundraising/business development adviser to work with us to develop new funding streams and enhance our financial sustainability.

Key tasks:

  • fundraising: do applications to funders (trusts and foundations) and research new opportunities.
  • crowdfunding: investigate the option to begin a crowdfunding campaign and produce a proposal.
  • other income streams: investigate and propose other potential funding streams suitable for Declassified.

Contract: We are looking for someone for around 2 days a week over 3 months, initially – to be negotiated. This could develop into a longer contract or a permanent position. Fee will be negotiated, based on a daily rate.

Work station: Home and central London office.

Experience/commitment needed:

  • Several years’ experience of fundraising in campaign-oriented or similar organisations
  • Knowledge of British foreign policy and journalism landscape in the UK
  • Experience of small business development
  • Commitment to the aims and ethos of Declassified’s journalism
