Paramount Pictures is soon to launch an online video clip service. This will enable potential buyers to search huge numbers of feature films on a frame-by-frame basis, which they can then insert into anything they like. It’s a bit like the DStv promo clips that have all the funny bits, or dancing moves, excised from multiple sources. That creates a whole new world of advertising and marketing possibilities, and soon this service will be available to ad agencies, cellphone companies and broadcasters, with pricing depending on how a clip is used. Paramount will deliver the selection in a choice of formats and resolutions and in multiple languages. Using an automated indexing tool, movies can quickly searched by actor, line of dialogue, location, genre and so on. Read more: The New York Times
