Only US babies to keep fingers

British pushchair maker Maclaren has recalled a million folding buggies after 12 children had their fingertips amputated by the device’s hinges. But the buggies are only to be recalled in the US market, where the term apparently means something different to what it means in the UK – in the former, “recall” includes modifications that can be made by customers to improve the product. Maclaren USA is therefore providing customers with an “elbow joint” to cover the hinges, while in the UK the firm swears that the buggy complies with European safety legislation and that injury risks are “non-existent” if instructions are followed.     Read more: BBC News
