Somali pirates demand return of gang members held in Spain

In a move that bodes ill for hostages, Somali pirates holding the crew of a Spanish fishing vessel are calling for two of their members held in Spain to be sent back to Somalia for trial. The victims’ families and the owner of the vessel back the move. Reports say a Spanish judge will consider the demand if he's asked to do so by prosecutors at Spain's justice ministry, but this hasn’t happened yet. Governments keep quiet over payments to pirates because of the dangers involved in rescuing kidnapped sailors. A hostage was killed earlier this year when French forces stormed a captive yacht.
