Chrysler looks into the future

We opined yesterday that it would take an extraordinary reversal of fortune to see Chrysler survive and thrive again. Its sales are down 40% this year, its staff demoralised, the dealer network uncertain and disheartened. Yet company executives are not giving up the fight. In a six-hour presentation on Wednesday, the Fiat-managed company’s CEO Sergio Marchionne (other shareholders are the US government and the United Auto Workers Health Trust) presented his five-year vision for its Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram brands. The highlights include launching 21 new models by 2014, with an emphasis on smaller, more efficient engines, mostly based on Fiat technology. One really hopes it works out for them.
