Gale force profits for wind turbine maker Vestas
Vestas, the world's largest wind turbine maker, has reported a big jump in quarterly profits to $246m in July to September 2009, up 70% from a year ago. The Isle of Wight based company says market prospects are improving, after it closed its factory and shed 425 jobs over the European summer. Vestas has been making turbines since 1979, selling some 39,000 units all over the world. Amidst all the hot air around the issue of climate change, it’s nice when a cool wind blows in the form of industry numbers. The results were better than analysts had expected and the company’s shares rose 8.5% on the Frankfurt exchange. Read more: BBC News, Vestas
