October has worst US death toll in Afghanistan since 2001 invasion

With eight more American troops killed in two separate recent attacks in Afghanistan, October has now become the month with the largest death toll since the US invasion in 2001 to end Taliban rule in that country. The total of American fatalities since the initial invasion there now stands in excess of 800. A US military spokesman said both recent attacks occurred in Kandahar province. These deaths bring to 55 the total number of American troops killed in Afghanistan in October. Fifty-one were killed during a growing wave of insurgent attacks in August as the country held the initial voting round in its presidential election. For more: AP
