Somali militant rivals break ceasefire

Somalia’s radical al Shabaab Islamist group says it has broken a ceasefire with rival militants Hizbul-Islam, killing some of its members. The two groups had agreed to jointly run the southern Somali port of Kismayo after taking it from the government. But it seems the better organised al Shabaab recently named an administration which excluded Hizbul-Islam. US helicopters attacked al Shabaab last month, killing a senior militant Washington says was linked to al-Qaeda. The fighting between the rival militants will no doubt please the Americans.
