Tsvangirai to meet SADC over Bennett charges

The decision by Zimbabwe’s Movement for Democratic Change to disengage from the country’s unity government over terrorism charges levelled against senior MDC member Roy Bennett may not mean the end of power-sharing, but now it’s time for the Southern African Development Community to step up to the plate. SADC says MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai will meet Mozambican President Armando Guebuza, who chairs the body’s political panel on defence and security. SADC has tip-toed around Mugabe’s outrageous antics for more than nine years, allowing Tsvangirai to be beaten up by Zimbabwean police and face three charges of treason himself. The Zimbabwean prime minister also wants to meet South Africa’s Jacob Zuma, who should know a thing or two about “fabricated” charges of the kind Bennett is seemingly facing. Read more: Reuters
