China imposes tax on US Nylon 6

The Chinese ministry of commerce on Monday decided to impose a 36% tax on US-made Nylon 6, a synthetic filament used in just about every commercial product that needs a tough, durable fibre. The move is designed as an another step up in the tit-for-tat exchange of punitive measures that started in September with Obama administration’s 35% tariff on Chinese-produced car tyres. The question remains unsolved by international watchers: is the saga going to be seen as an irritant in the greater scheme of US-China relations involving so many issues of vital importance for the world, or is it, as any good sore, likely to poison the relations so much as to actually produce an all-out trade war.
