Trouble in Transfatania

Healthy eaters have long avoided artificial trans fats, while the rest of us continue to relish their unhealthy yumminess. Now Business Day reports the government is considering intervention, with possible regulations to reduce or perhaps eliminate the use of vegetable-derived trans fats in commercial food preparation. Any regulation will cause some disruption and require a bit of fast footwork from manufacturers, but it is unlikely to be fought off. Consumer demand and international regulations are already pointing the way, and the food industry is rapidly reducing its trans fat use anyway.
