UN urges Gaza war crime follow-up

UN chief Ban Ki-moon has called for "credible" investigations by Israel and the Palestinians into allegations of war crimes during the Gaza conflict. His call underscores a central recommendation in the recent human rights probe on the Gaza war, alleging major breaches of international war by both Israelis and Palestinians. Retired South African Judge Richard Goldstone chaired the investigation and its report. Libya, a rotating member of the 15-seat Security Council, agreed to bring its monthly session on the Middle East forward by one week to address the issue. The Palestinian Authority’s Mahmoud Abbas is seeking a special session of the UN Human Rights Council to vote on the report, after facing angry criticism when the PA initially supported a delay on the vote until March next year.
