There must be something about those Maine Republican senators

Maine Senator Susan Collins has now signalled that she is considering voting for sweeping health care legislation this year, helping to move Barack Obama that much closer to a goal that has escaped years of effort by Democratic leaders. But Collins did say the bill that the Senate finance committee passed this week still needs changes to make coverage more affordable, contain costs and protect Medicare. But she has now signed on with her Maine colleague Senator Olympia Snowe by endorsing the goal of far-reaching changes. “My hope is that we can fix the flaws in the bill and come together with a truly bipartisan bill that could garner widespread support. I think this bill is far superior to the ones passed by the Senate (health) committee and the three House committees, but it needs substantial additional work,” she said.
