Twitter wins victory in Ivory Coast toxic waste case
A campaign on the giant social networking website Twitter that relates to allegations of widespread dumping of toxic waste in the Ivory Coast helped stymie a legal injunction that had stopped Britain’s Guardian newspaper from reporting on a parliamentary proceeding. Bloggers and Tweeters (certainly one could not call them Twits), were led in the campaign by the Guardian’s editor-in-chief. The order was filed against the newspaper by a London-based law firm representing Trafigura, a Dutch oil-and-gas company alleged to be responsible for poisoning up to 100,00 people. The law firm agreed to change the stipulations of the injunction after Tweeters blasted them.
