National Security Advisor says Afghan success is more than boots on the ground

President Obama's national security advisor, General James Jones, says the way forward in Afghanistan is more than just troop levels. Key also are improved governance and economic development. Jones has rebuked the commander in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, for his speech in London calling for upping troop levels, saying it is “better for military advice to come up through the chain of command”. Jones was speaking on CNN, even as a growing three-way split looms in the upper echelons of the US government. Is it to be more troops, more trainers and a limited mission, or a focus on al Qaeda in northwest Pakistan? Jones noted the White House had received McChrystal's request for additional troops, but the force enhancement is just part of a broader discussion about future US activity in Afghanistan.
