China, North Korea mutual love fest during official visit

China and North Korea gave their fraternal, but less than warm ties a boost as Chinese premier Wen Jiabao visited the northern half of the hermit kingdom. The rest of the world is trying to divine if it means Pyongyang will agree to return to crucial nuclear disarmament talks. Wen Jiabao’s visit is being sold as part of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties with lots of mutually congratulatory hugs and kisses. But, with China a key part of the multi-nation talks (involving the US, Japan, South Korea, Russia and North Korea) that have spluttered along, speculation is that China would not have agreed to the visit without Pyongyang’s intent to return to the talks.
