New Yorkers to see red

Critics of China's government are protesting plans to illuminate the top part of the iconic Empire State Building red and yellow in honour of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Wednesday. Tibet supporters protested outside the building where the special lighting is planned. The Empire State Building is often lit in special colours to mark holidays and major events. Democratic congressman from New York Anthony Weiner says the building should pay tribute to a regime with "a shameful history on human rights." A spokesperson for the building declined to comment.
