Zuma’s conference-hopping weekend

Zuma’s conference-hopping weekend

Suggesting he is wanting to be everything to everyone, SA President Jacob Zuma had a full weekend of conferences, dropping in on the Group of 20 and then quickly moving to its antithesis, the second South America-Africa Summit hosted by Venezuelan firebrand President Hugo Chavez. The presidency said in a statement SA had noted that since their London summit earlier this year, G20 countries had moved quickly to make greater resources available to the International Monetary Fund and multilateral development banks for lending. Attention now had to be focused on urgently implementing all other commitments made by the G20 leaders on the needs of low-income countries - including promises made in 2005 to double aid to Africa by 2010.
