IRAN missiles tested, testing grounds for talks

Iran announced successful tests of short-range missiles days after the US sharply criticised its newly revealed underground nuclear facility. Iran said it had also tested a multiple missile launcher. Coming on the heels of stern warnings from the US and its allies about Iran’s secret underground uranium enrichment facility, they warned Iran to open the site in the mountains near Qom to international inspection or face even harsher international sanctions. Iran said it will allow UN inspectors to examine the site. By US estimates, Iran is one - five years from nuclear weapons capability. The country is also developing a longer-range ballistic missile that could carry warheads, but the Obama administration believes this has been slowed, giving the US president leeway to cancel the Bush plan for a European missile shield.
