Police clash with Hout Bay informal dwellers

The police have clashed with residents of the Hangberg informal settlement in Hout Bay, after the City of Cape Town tried to move a group of illegal squatters from Sentinel Hill. Residents reportedly threw stones and other projectiles including flares at the police, and they responded by firing rubber bullets and stun grenades at the rioters. A few injuries have been reported, though none seem to be very serious at this time. A City of Cape Town spokesperson said that the evictions were being carried out on shacks built on a firebreak between Hangberg and Sentinel Hill.  Read more: News24 and EyeWitness News
