Air Zimbabwe workers take strike action
The latest workers to go on strike in sub-Saharan Africa are pilots and crew at Air Zimbabwe. Surprisingly enough, the airline does still actually function, well, when its staff isn't on strike. Workers are demanding the reinstatement of allowances that were scrapped in February. The state-owned airline's chairperson, Jonathan Kadzura, said on television on Thursday that the government could not afford to increase their wages. Pilots reportedly currently earn $1,200 a month, which may not seem like a lot, but has to be understood within the context of the extremely weak Zimbabwean economy. Read more: Reuters via News24
