Burqa wars, in reverse, in India
Several media outlets in India are running with the story of Shirin Niddya, a 24-year-old teacher who was moved out of her job after she refused to start wearing a burqa. Students at the Aliah University in Kolkata apparently demanded that woman teachers wear the burqa, as they consider the university to be a madrassah.. Seven others acceded but Niddya, just two weeks into the job, refused. So university authorities moved her to another campus, in an attempt to avoid trouble. Now she has turned to the government and promised to fight, but the students aren't backing down either. NDTV, Indian Express
