Formal sector sheds 165,000 jobs – but informal picks up the slack
The formal, non-agricultural part of the economy shed nearly 130,000 jobs, or 1.4% of the total, during the second quarter of the year, Statistics SA said in its quarterly household survey on Tuesday. Agriculture and private household employment saw another 36,000 odd people lose their jobs.
