Buncefield oil depot explosion firms pay £9 million
The companies responsible for the Buncefield oil depot explosion, which occcured just outside of London in 2005, will have to pay more than £9 million in fines and legal costs. The brunt of these will be born by Total, which owes £3,600,000 in fines plus £2,600,000 in costs. The blast, which occurred on a early on a Sunday morning, did not kill anyone, but is believed to be the biggest explosion in Europe, not counting those during wars. Read more: The Independent
