President withdraws Nigerian soccer team from international competition

Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan has banned the Super Eagles from international competition for two years, following their dismal performance at the World Cup. According to a presidential advisor, this is to allow Nigeria "to reorganise its football". Fifa has not yet commented on the decision, although it does not take kindly to government interference in soccer, so expect it to make a statement soon. Read more: Goal.com
