Judge who jailed pirates murdered in Puntland

A high court judge known for jailing pirates, people-smugglers and militant Islamists has been killed outside a mosque in Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region, where many gangs are based. The judge recently jailed four members of the al-Shabaab group, which has been giving African Union peacekeepers in Somalia’s chaotic capital, Mogadishu, a torrid time of late, and who tried to shoot down President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed’s plane as he left for an AU summit in Uganda.
