Mau Mau veterans claim British tortured and sexually abused them

Solicitors for five veterans of Kenya’s Mau Mau independence movement have served the British government with claims allegedly showing the government authorised torture, including castrations and sexual abuse, during the 1950s and 1960s,. Colonial authorities put thousands of people into camps during the time. The British Foreign Office has withheld comment. The claimants say the British systematically tortured detainees as authorised by the secretary of state for the colonies and the governor of Kenya, and ignored reports of widespread violence by security forces.
