Town names change, but consultation may have been somewhat lacking

Nelspruit is now Mbombela - at least according to a declaration published in the Government Gazette on Friday. However, the town itself has been caught a little off guard by the announcement. The good people of the capital of Mpumalanga were still to hold meetings to consider proposed new names. Among the 42 other town names changed is eNtokozweni (previously Machadodorp), eMakhazeni (previously Belfast) and Emgwenya (previously Waterval-Boven). Manufacturers of the ubiquitous GPS devices have not said what impact all this will have on their electronic maps, but no tourists have been reported lost yet. Read more: Beeld (Afrikaans), Citizen
