Update: Wayne Rooney stays at Manchester United

Wayne Rooney has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United, ending days of speculation that he would be seeking employment at another club, after a very public spat with his manager Sir Alex Ferguson. In a statement posted on the club's website, Sir Alex said that he thinks Rooney "now understands" what a great club Manchester United is. In the same statement, Rooney said that after he had talked to managers, he had been convinced that United is where he belonged. We do wonder whether Fergie's world famous blow-dryer was used to "convince" young Rooney of the folly of trying to leave Old Trafford. Read more: Manchester United website
