LGE2016 Results: From dusk till dawn

At 5am on Thursday morning, the African National Congress (ANC) held the lead nationally with 33% of votes counted in South Africa’s fifth local government elections. With over two million votes counted by dawn, the balance of power in the fiercely contested metros is still not clear. Tshwane and Johannesburg remain neck-and-neck races between the two main parties while the Democratic Alliance (DA) has bolted ahead in Nelson Mandela Bay. By RANJENI MUNUSAMY.

High voter turnout leaves much counting left

A 58.58% voter turnout showed a determination amongst South Africans of all political backgrounds to cast their ballot. If you want the numbers as of this morning, click here. With only a small percentage of votes counted thus far, however, things remain a very close call. Johannesburg, for example, remains neck and neck between the ANC and DA, but with so few votes counted, it is definitely too early to tell.Click here for updated information.

One dead, six injured in UK attack

A man has gone on a stabbing spree at Russell Square, London, killing one woman. Police apprehended the suspect, and believe terrorism-related motives could be to blame. Russell Square was also at the heart of UK’s 7/7 terror attacks in 2005. Read More
