20 Questions with Angela Daniels

Get to know Angela Daniels, our new Nelson Mandela Bay Bureau Chief. She’s curious, chaotic and a lover of all things creative – and she’s answered 20 questions for our Maverick Insiders.

Such a hard question! I’d feel like I was betraying some books to pick just one. And honestly, I change my mind quite often.

 Do people still watch films?

All-time: House. Grumpy genius, ethical grey areas and razor-sharp dialogue? Yes please. Recently: The Lincoln Lawyer. It’s like comfort food if your comfort food has a few twists and courtroom chaos.

I must be boring – I mostly buy practical things.

Error message when my computer threw a tantrum. I sent it to my husband/aka my IT guru.

WhatsApp. Between school groups, tip-offs and team chat, it’s basically a newsroom at this point.

A group of flamingos is called a “flamboyance”. Not really trivia. I just love it though.

If I complain about Wi-Fi out loud, it fixes itself.

The first moments I got to hold my daughter and my son. Magical.

Window. I might need to make a dramatic exit.

The city manager of Nelson Mandela Bay – just long enough to sign off on a few critical service delivery decisions… and some other things I probably shouldn’t mention. Also Taylor Swift.

I’m not sucking up because I’m fairly new (see above), but joining Daily Maverick as Nelson Mandela Bay bureau chief is definitely a career highlight. I love this crazy place and want to see it prosper.

I really, really like spreadsheets.

Probably for excessive caffeine consumption or jaywalking while distracted by a great story idea. Definitely not for any real crime.

Do you think they’re trying to get rid of me already? But seriously, I think being a chef is probably really hard but fun.

Caffeinated, curious and compulsive.

Black jeans that qualify as formalwear, streetwear and deadline-wear.

Pick your battles – but don’t forget to win the ones you pick.

Just one, that doesn’t seem fair, but those moms who run the class WhatsApp groups with military precision should be somewhere on the list.

Some reality TV. When I worked for a short while in the animation industry I saw a client of mine behaving badly on Love is Blind.
